In our Fashion & Beauty Makeup Artistry Course our students have a module where they learn techniques on how to apply makeup for dark skin, they learn colour theory, contouring principles and more. There are as many shades of black skin as there are of white and it is a necessity that professional makeup artists are capable of working with darker skin complexions.

Here is a behind the scenes video of our students working their magic and some of the final images.

The Huxley School of Makeup held a workshop for the celebrity makeup artist Martin Bray! He is the fabulous head makeup artist for X-Factor, who has also worked on Kylie Minogue, Kelly Rowland and INXS. He is currently based in Barcelona however, travels around the world for his craft.

In his workshop which was for Queensland professional makeup artists, he created various creative makeup looks from using bold colours, lots of glitter to a simple makeup look.

Here are some behind the scene photos from the event and some of the amazing looks he created.

Back in 2014 we created the Spring / Summer Trend look for Kryolan. Here is a behind the scene video and some of our favourite shots from the day.

Captured and Seduced is short creative fashion film centred around two unique characters one of which is extraterrestrial. The film explores a master and salve dynamic full of sexual frustration shot in a way that is raw and gritty.

It’s romantic, a little kinky and has some cool body art created by students at the HUXLEY SCHOOL OF MAKEUP.

The music is from the track Silver Screen: Written by Felix The House Cat

Recently at Huxley school of makeup we have discovered our new face of the school!

Lisa Hyde is the 4th Face of the Huxley School of Makeup. Each year we are looking for someone who is more than just a pretty face. We were looking for an ambassador whose personality is as radiant as her complexion. The director of Huxley School of Makeup, Michael Huxley met Lisa at the start of the year on the GCTC judging panel for Fashion on the Fields. He quotes

“She is hilarious and we had an instant connection. I knew right away that she would be the best person for the job. She is positive, down to earth, and intelligent and someone I believe young woman can look up to.”

Michael personally feels that in most circumstances makeup is about accentuating your own beauty. Huxley School of Makeup students are known for creating some incredible characters and technical fashion inspired makeup looks. However, in this instance we chose to showcase how effective and beautiful a simple makeup can be. It’s subtle and allows our model to be the hero of the image.

The location was the beautiful home of Michaels’ lovely friend Rochelle who also styled our shoot with clothes and accessories from Another Love Boutique. Our theme was romantically Hamptons and it couldn’t have been more perfect!

Lisa was everyone’s favourite Bachelorette on Chanel 10’s hit TV show The Bachelor! The dashing bachelor Blake Garvey was good on the eye but wasn’t a good sought when it came to the ladies. After proposing to his Top pick Sam Frost, Blake broke it off with her after only a couple weeks!

Blake then asked Lisa if she still had feeling for him even while he started dating the second runner up Louise Pillidge!! CONTROVERSY!!

Heat is shot as a satire to our beloved fashion, with disinterested models dishing out their best RBF (Resting Bitch Face) while engaging in some kind of casting scenario. The setting has our girls engaging with the camera as if you’re the casting agent.

Our imaginary agency waiting room is fitted out with amazing Matt Blatt furniture. We love their store but if you can’t find one close to you check out their website www.mattblatt.com.au

We hope you love the video. Below are a couple snaps from the film shot by Dan Molloy.

Full cast and crew details are at the bottom of the page.

The Gold Coast is blessed with beautiful weather all year round but for most of the continent Summer is on its last legs clinging on amongst pockets of sunshine.

There are of course a couple positives comrades with winter.

Hot chocolate… mmm definitely a winter warming fave and a guilty pleasure

Cuddles… winter is the perfect time to shack up and watch movies under the blankets with your bestie or lover

FASHION… you can layer, you can wear dark colours and not feel like Morticia and you don’t need to walk out of the house with a detailed understanding of the closest air conditioned venues.

Understandably winter isn’t for everyone.

You could escape the winter chills with a trip to the northern hemisphere or perhaps a warm island paradise. But for most of us you’ll need to get your summer fashion fix elsewhere.

Here are our tips;

MAKEUP

Heavy cake face was so 2014, so remember just because your layering your clothes, doesn’t mean you should layer your makeup super thick. So regarding everyone’s fave Kim Kardashian makeup look, simply contour from the base to avoid a build up of product.

Get pro at colour matching and concealing!
Half the battle with our complexion is coving up little imperfections. Yes you can cover them with a mask but that wont do you any favours. Understand your colour theory and you can use a minimal amount of makeup to do the same job as the thick stuff! (Check out our workshops and classes for more).

HAIR

Winter isn’t about one style in particular, it is about having style and rocking it. When in doubt, clean and healthy hair never goes out of fashion, so present with a look that suits you and most importantly what your comfortable with.

FASHION

It might be colder than a bucket of Ben and Jerry’s outside but that doesn’t mean your jacket and boots should be your only fashion accessory you wear this winter. You can get away with wearing the same coat over and over again if you mix up the outfit underneath. My personal fav is a simple dark coat over a super bright and colourful dress or shirt. It say, “Yes it’s cold, but take my coat off and I’ll bring the heat!”

The Huxley School of Makeup was an exhibitor at the 2015 Study Gold coast careers expo. Our head trainer Michael performed a live demo of a fashion inspired makeup and hosted a seminar on ‘A Career in Makeup’. Like everything Huxley, no detail was left out and the demo wouldn’t be complete without a one off couture gown; a hand made Avant Guard headpiece, a 6-foot plus Amazonian goddess model and an internationally renowned fashion photographer. We had a great time at the expo meeting future makeup artist and look forward to next years expo!
