When courses are government-supported and have no or limited upfront costs, the real cost of doing a course is primarily your time and ability to juggle studying with your lifestyle, work, and family commitments. For this reason, HUXLEY takes the responsibility of delivering an amazing educational experience extremely seriously. Courses have been designed with practicality and equitability in mind. At HUXLEY courses are condensed, meticulous, and comprehensive.
As an example, students can complete a full Diploma CUA51020 Diploma of Screen and Media (Specialist Make-up Services) between 6 – 12 months, which means they can enter the workforce faster with more skills and real-world experience. For 10 years, HUXLEY has been developing its educational systems and practices to meet the demands of industry, Government requirements, and what students need and want. In addition to Australia’s BEST professional makeup course, the CUA51020 Diploma of Screen and Media (Specialist Make-up Services) in partnership wth TAFE Queensland, HUXLEY offers specialty courses and up-skilling workshops for students and industry pros who want to advance their skills.
The HUXLEY HQ in Burleigh Heads is fitted out with state-of-the-art studio equipment and designed in a way that emulates real-world working environments. With multiple classrooms, a special effects workshop, and a large commercial studio space, HUXLEY students can enjoy working in a large, spacious, and comfortable environment equipped to an industry standard.

HUXLEY students have gone on to work with some of the world’s biggest brands. Karina and her fashion label Moana Bikini have close to 3 million followers across their social media platforms and in recent years as hired more than 10 HUXLEY graduates to work on their campaigns, studio shoots, events, and regular content days. Moana models are often sourced through the schools model database HUXLEYBABES.

The HUXLEY has two amazing Queensland locations and offers course study modes: full-time on campus, mixed blended delivery, or online. Masterclasses and personal and professional development workshops are also available face-to-face or online.
GOLD COAST (HUXLEY HQ)
The school headquarters is located on the beautiful Gold Coast in idyllic Burleigh Heads close to transport, food, entertainment, employment opportunities, and accommodation. The school is equipped with three large purpose-built training rooms, special effects workshop, a store, a chill-out zone, and a commercial photographic/video studio. Unless we are on location, all the photos you see on the HUXLEY site and social media are shot in our studios!
Besides being the home of Australia’s top makeup school, the Gold Coast is one of Australia’s fastest growing cities with an endless supply of activities and attractions, sprawling beaching, lush hinterlands, and amazing restaurants, cafes, and nightlife. TOWNSVILLE
In late 2018, HUXLEY began working on an exciting project to bring the HUXLEY experience to regional Australia. With countless opportunities to expand to Sydney and Melbourne, the school decided to open in Far North Queensland, based in Townsville operating from the TAFE Queensland campus in Pimlico.
There is no denying the talent that comes from regional towns in Australia… Miranda Kerr, Iggy Azalea, all the Hemsworth Brothers to name a few. However, these smaller communities are often overlooked by major businesses and don’t often get educational opportunities within specialised fields. HUXLEY set about changing that and in 2019 launched the first-ever blended delivery mode of the CUA51020 Diploma of Screen and Media (Specialist Make-up Services) in Townsville.
The school could never have anticipated the Global pandemic and remarkably, since the school campuses are located in Queensland, HUXLEY was able to avoid the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The global crisis certainly disrupted the calendar and affected teaching and practical procedures. However, it also put a spotlight on the region, as one of the few safe places in the world to continue filming movies, commercials, and TV series.
Since then the region has experienced unprecedented growth and more opportunities. Students, such as the now graduated Ash Major, have also found success online as content creators and influencers, proving that no matter where you live, you can make a career in makeup artistry!

Making Friends
Starting a new course is like embarking on an exciting adventure. You don’t always know what to expect and things along the way can be difficult, but when you reach that final destination, you’ll be proud, basking in the spectacle of your achievements.
Sharing in these achievements will be the people you have met along the way. Your classmates and trainers. The people you meet at makeup school will be your first point of call when looking for an extra set of hands to help on a big job. They are the first to call when an exciting opportunity pops up and they are the support network who will help to keep you motivated and inspired long after the course has finished.
The positive culture at HUXLEY encourages comradery among the students which in many cases turns into long-lasting friendships. After graduating from HUXLEY, it isn’t a goodbye. HUXLEY alumni are a special family who celebrates in current student achievements, often attend HUXLEY events, and are called upon to assist in large projects or when job opportunities arise.
Accomodation
The Gold Coast is a great place to live with beautiful beaches, subtropical rainforests, action-packed attractions, some of Australia’s best cafes and restaurants, and of course a vibrant nightlife. The cost of living is also considerably cheaper than in other major cities like Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane.
Huxley School of Makeup doesn’t place students in accommodation. However, the friendly staff at HUXLEY are always happy to advise students with their hot tips for places to live. The Gold Coast has a huge amount of apartment accommodation which can be secured for rent from reputable real estate agents. There are also websites like flatmates.com or Gumtree where people can source accommodation. For short stays, we would recommend staying at one of the beautiful sky-rise hotels and resorts or alternatively in an AirBNB.
Food & Drink
There are many local food and drink options close to HUXLEY campuses. In Burleigh, our HQ is walking distance from cafes and a shopping centre, while our Townsville campus has a canteen on-site at the Pimlico TAFE. There is a drinks fridge with items to buy and student amenities like a fridge, freezer, microwave, and kettle on campus.
Transport
The Huxley School of Makeup is perfectly situated between the M1 and the Gold Coast Highway so travelling to school is easy from the Gold Coast, Northern Rivers, or Brisbane.
While there is limited parking on campus, there is a public car park only a minute’s walk from the school and plenty of free street parking. Regarding public transport, the Varsity Lakes train station is the closest station with buses running to Burleigh regularly. It is also only a short walk from the school to bus stops at either Stocklands Shopping Centre or the hub of Burleigh Heads off the GC HWY.
Students can easily be dropped off and picked up with staff keeping an eye out for students arriving and leaving the campus.
It’s all about the experience!
HUXLEY has an incredible work experience program where students gain industry experience across a wide range of makeup fields. Students have worked on productions like Eurovision and the Commonwealth Games to film sets like Baz Luhrmann Elvis movie.
Experiences like this often lead to paid work and priceless industry connections.

Our students walk away with an amazing portfolio from work experience placements and incredible in class photo shoots. HUXLEY Diploma students don’t just shoot once… No sir! They shoot up to 14 times with our in-house creative team. This way they can make mistakes, understand on-set etiquette and create makeup magic!
